What is a Gospel Jelly, and did one ever happen?

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away... (well, 1995) there was a discussion about what the purpose of a GospelJam was, and whether one of those purposes was social interaction between the a cappella groups. While (at least some) people agreed that while a GospelJam had some (or maybe a lot, if you stay up late with your hosts) social interaction, that should not be the primary purpose, and perhaps another gathering should be created specifically for that purpose.

That is the purpose of a Gospel Jelly.

The first (and only?) Gospel Jelly was held on October 18-20th, 1996.
